THE POET IN THE LANDSCAPE – April 8th – 10th 2011

John Clare once wrote that he found his poems in the fields. This weekend residential course asks the question: how do poets “situate” themselves in the landscape? How do we find a language to describe the natural world which is not based on human experience? To answer these questions, we will put ourselves into the landscape, using our base at Mendham Mill on the River Waveney as inspiration, as well as examining prose excerpts from writers such as Richard Mabey, Roger Deakin and WG Sebald, which locate the reader in this part of Norfolk. We will also look at “nature” poets such as Wordsworth, Clare and Oswald. Poets participating in the weekend will be asked to produce their own poems in response to our discussions and our beautiful surroundings.

Our Spring weekend residential with published poet and writer, Tamar Yoseloff, will be held from April 8th – 10th 2011,  at the stunning Mendham Mill. This is a peaceful location with luxury accommodation.  Tuition and all  food and drink, throughout your stay, is included in the price. Beginner poets and writers, as well as the more experienced, welcome.

Anne Berkeley will be our guest poet.
