How to Write for Children with Brandon Robshaw

Orford House Social Club, Walthamstow, E17

Sunday, 13 January to 3 February, 11-1

£65 payment by instalments accepted

The four sessions will explore the four main age-groups of children’s writing: pre-school, 5-8, 9-12 and teenage fiction. We will look at what makes a successful picturebook text, plot, character and setting in stories for children and in children’s novels, and themes in teenage fiction. The emphasis will be on generating ideas and producing writing. You will finish the course with plenty of work-in-progress.

Week 1: Picture Books

Week 2: Writing for 5-8s

Week 3: Writing for 9-12s

Week 4: Writing for Teenagers

Do you remember? Growing up in the 70s…glam rock, blue eyeshadow, power cuts,  Nationwide, Top of the Pops, Hot Pants, Thatcher and Punk - reminiscence and creative writing with Rochelle Scholar and Nichola Charalambou

Orford House Social Club, Walthamstow, E17

Sunday, 10 February to 17 February, 11-1

£45 for the two workshops

Reminiscence is not just for the older person. The workshops are a mix of oral history, story telling and creative writing.

The first hour will use the 1970s – film, music, objects and story-telling to prompt ideas for writing. In the second hour, Nichola Charalambou, founder of Creative Writes, will help generate writing with free-flow exercises. The aim of the workshops is to trigger and use memory in writing.
