Six Summer Evenings – the theme is Travel

A six-week course that explores the themes of travel and the journey in both fiction and non-fiction.

TRAVEL

SESSION 1: STARTING LOCAL. Writing based on local areas.

SESSION 2: PSYCHOGEOGRAPHY. The interaction between environment and writer.

SESSION 3: MEETING PEOPLE. Writing about encounters.

SESSION 4: FOREIGN TRAVEL. Capturing the spirit of a place.

SESSION 5: BIOGRAPHY OF AN AREA. Telling the story of a place.

SESSION 6: THE QUEST IN TRAVEL WRITING. Give your writing a narrative structure with a self-imposed quest.

Every session will include reading and discussion of examples of travel writing, writing exercises, and workshopping of drafts. Homework will be set between sessions

Write Around The Monopoly Board  themed walking writing workshops inspired by the Monopoly board. If you like London, like writing and want to explore your own creative process come and join the game.  All themed workshops cost £25 and run from 2-5.  Numbers are limited to 8 participants for each workshop.

Walk with the departed in a writing workshop that explores, and responds to, the brooding atmosphere and colourful stories found within the celebrated Highgate Cemetery.  While considering the themes of memory, mortality and afterlife, we will generate new pieces of writing through games and exercises prompted by the many literary and non-literary personalities interred there.

£20 includes entry fee to the Cemetery. Limited to 8 participants.
